Theory, Practice and Beyond!

Weekend Workshop with Todd McLaughlin

June 11-13, 2010

Friday 2 hrs. 5pm-7pm

Yoga Philosophy - Study of the first two limbs of Yoga ~ Yama and Niyama (Ethical disciplines and Restraint of the mind)

Asana Practice

A challenging 90 minute class that will serve as the foundation for the weekend sessions. Here we will hone in on the Sun Salutations and practice and variety of methods. Include a breakdown of the jumping technique to serve as a solid class and workshop session.


Saturday 3 hours 8am-8:30am (Mediation) 8:30-11:30am (Practice)


Yoga Philosophy - Study of the 3rd, 4th and 5th limbs of Yoga ~ Asana, Pranayama and Pratyahara (Posture, Breath, and Sense withdrawal)

Asana Practice

Here we increase the challenge element. Longer holding of poses and working into more challenging standing and floor postures. Here we break down the shoulder/arm rotation inherent in the One Leg King Pigeon and full Natarajasana using straps to make it possible for all. Also and in depth exploration of the backbend and in hip opening for lotus posture.

Pranayama (Controlled breath practice)

Here we end the session with a relaxing Pranayama breathing meditation exploring some of the basic and intermediate techniques.


Sunday 3 hours 8am-8:30am (Meditation) 8:30am-11:30am(Practice)

Yoga Philosophy - Study of the 6th, 7th and 8th limbs of Yoga ~ Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi (Concentration, Meditation, and Absorption)

Asana Practice

In this class we increase the challenge even more according to what the groups' capability is. We work and strong vinyasa sequence incorporating the postures we explored the previous two days. We also include an inversion workshop for headstand, forearm balance and handstanding. We partner up for a few of the poses yet still maintain and strong heat throughout. I ask at the beginning what each person would like to work on and try to incorporate this as well. Toward the end of the class we slow it down and work more of a Yin style deep practice to cool down and segue into a short meditation.
